HELLO!

I’m Madie Deffé - the nurturer and designer behind Wild Flora. I stumbled upon a love for plants and flowers right after my college graduation. After nearly a decade tending to flowers in private gardens, designing for talented florists throughout the valley, and spending a season interning at a sustainable flower farm in upstate New York, I decided to create a space that could encompass everything the Wood River Valley loves: nature, artistry and sustainability.

Our flowers are grown from seed early each year with only love and the most natural of ingredients. No chemicals, synthetics or pesticides touch our plants throughout our entire process . Our farm creates a more connected and seasonal way for flower lovers to enjoy nature’s showiest bounty. The amount of CO2, plastic and toxic chemicals that pass through a traditional florist’s shop will put you off your lunch. I’m a big fan of lunch (and charcuterie boards if you’re asking) so I decided that we can have both beautiful flowers that are artfully arranged and a positive impact on our planet. Because why would we enjoy something nature give us if it’s negatively impacting the outdoors we love so much?

Our farm has moved a handful of times throughout the Wood River Valley. Through the process of uprooting and shifting, I’ve learned the value of incredible soil. Without nutrient-rich soil, you cannot have perfect, stunning flowers. In 2024, we began renting land from the local veggie farm, Lookout Farm. It has been a collaborative joy to help Simon and his team bring life back to their soil. This will be a long process due to the time and effort it takes to sustainably grow cover crops and work them into the soil. We also bring in high-quality, local compost that adds to these nutrients and implement natural mulches to keep the nutrients at the right temperatures and protected from other harsh weather. Besides a passion for blooms, I have a deep love for hiking, traveling and playing with my precious pups, Gunner & Skye. You can find me reading tarot cards for friends in my off time, sipping a cold glass of rosé in the sunshine or telling jokes alongside my darling husband, Flash.

Our mantra here at Wild Flora is a quote from the famous poet Rumi; ‘When you feel a peaceful joy, that’s when you are near the truth.’ I try to envelope these words into my team’s daily activities on and off the farm. And if you let them, our flowers will fill your life with peace and joyful in any way that you need them.
